Americana Music of Jackson-Hurt

Americana is an amalgam of roots musics formed by the confluence of the shared and varied traditions that make up the American musical ethos; specifically those sounds that are merged from folk, country, rhythm and blues, rock and roll and other external influential styles

Jackson-Hurt is an acoustic duo consisting of
Dave Jackson and Jerry Hurt.

Jackson-Hurt's music finds its sense of place in a sound best described as Acoustic Americana. It is a folksy blend of bluegrass and country with a Alternative twist.

Jerry  Hurt is a multifaceted artist who has traveled the highways and back roads of Michigan for over thirty-five years.

He plays guitar, harmonica, keyboards, trumpet, and sax.
Jerry is a songwriter and vocalist.
His many talents can be heard in the music he creates.
An artist who straddles the borders between traditional bluegrass and an alternative country sound.

Dave  Jackson a guitar player and singer, was born and raised in Detroit.
Around the age of twelve, a mutual friend of Dave and Jerry's  (subsequently they didn't know that they both were friends with this kat until about 3 years ago) showed Dave a few Blues licks on a Fender Stratocaster and Dave was hooked on playing from there!
That year Dave ended up moving to a small town in Missouri where he was introduced to more Blues, and Bluegrass had a huge influence on Dave as well.
As the years past by Dave built his skills on the few licks and riffs he learned from that mutual friend and he listened and played a wide variety of music.

Dave moved back to Michigan around the age of 15. It was then when he met this pretty cool kat named Jeffrey Hurt.
He was just walkin' by his house playin' his acoustic guitar
and he looked up and saw this guy sitting on the porch doing the same.  Jeffery nodded his head and Dave mistakenly took it as an invite.  Dave ended up becoming very good friends with Jeff and they played a lot of music together.

Jerry met Dave Jackson in the Summer of 2006.

Jeffery Hurt was one of those "unforgettable characters" all who came into contact with him would know this the minute he spoke to them. A kindred spirit whose knowledge was brilliance and life was far too short.

The early death of Jeffery D. Hurt 06/23/1963 - 06/13/2006,(Jerry's older brother) was tragic for all that knew him.

Paying his respects to a friend he had been neighbors with. Dave attended Jeffery's funeral and ultimately met Jerry there.

At such a somber event as a funeral, they really didn't talk about music. But rather what a great guy Jeffery was and how he would be missed by many.

A few days passed when Jerry was at the home of his mother.  Jerry was perched on the porch drinking some iced tea in the warmth of the summer sunshine and Dave noticed Jerry and went over to talk to him. Jerry asked if he would like some tea and invited Dave into the house, out from the sun where they could enjoy an ice cold beverage and sit and chat a bit.

Jerry had a guitar in the corner of the living room and as they were talking about Jeff's passing, life, and music  Dave grabbed the guitar from the corner and began to strum it a bit.
Jerry Asked"Do you play man?" "Ive got a few idea's I've written, do you think you could play a bit with me?"
Dave played a few chords and smiled. Jerry brought out another guitar and they hummed, strummed, laughed and reminisced on that summer afternoon and it was this day that they discovered  they had a common interest, Music!

So in the summer of 2009 they got together with Mark Meisel with Counter Clockwise Music in Detroit, Michigan.

Using session players and lots of imagination
CCM has taken Jackson-Hurt's charming acoustic
songs and given them an added dimension.

Now Jackson-Hurt are filling the world with GOOD music.

And they are both happy that their life journeys have allowed them to share the GOOD music!

Jackson-Hurt is continually seeking artists to collaborate with.
